Tutor/Professional Helpline

The Ohio Valley Branch is often asked for the names of tutors who are knowledgeable in using multisensory techniques. This service provides the names of the tutors to the interested party. The student’s parents and the tutor decide on the location, the number of sessions and financial arrangements. While the Branch provides contact information for tutors, it does not endorse any specific tutor.

Please call the OVB Helpline at 513- 651-4747 for further information.

Service Provider Application
If you have completed an Orton-Gillingham Practicum or are knowledgeable in multisensory reading techniques, please consider adding your name to our tutor referral list. We continue to see an increase in demand for these services throughout Cincinnati and surrounding areas. The number of phone calls that the Ohio Valley Branch receives requesting names of tutors exceeds the number of instructors we currently have available. In response to these requests, the Branch provides the names of tutors to interested parties. It is then the responsibility of the client and the tutor to make financial arrangements and agree on the location where services will be provided. While the Branch provides contact information for tutors and professionals as a service to the community, it does not endorse any specific tutor.
The Ohio Valley Branch considers this a valuable service and we are continually updating the tutor referral list in an effort to keep it current. If you would like to have your name added, or if you are presently on our list and are no longer providing tutoring services, please contact the OVB Helpline at 513- 651-4747. If you wish to add your name to our tutor referral list:
  1. Please download, print, and complete this application form and return it to the address provided on the bottom of the form.
  2. Or call the phone number listed at the bottom of the form for directions for e-mail registration.

Adult Education
In conjunction with OVB, the Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati offers two levels of classes for adults who are dyslexic or who have dyslexic-like symptoms. Level 1 is a group class, up to ten adult students, and is a televised program from the Dyslexia Center at the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas. The areas of decoding and spelling are the principal areas of content. This course lasts for approximately six months and meets two times a week at three different sites. There is no charge for the class, but a donation is appreciated and is encouraged.
The Level 2 class is a group of five to ten adults, meeting two evenings a week for about four months. Advanced decoding and spelling, reading practice, and some writing skills are the content areas covered. It is not necessary to begin with the Level 1 class if your skills are adequate. There is no charge for the class and there is no workbook to purchase.
To determine which would be the most appropriate class, a screening is held at several sites, numerous times a year. Candidates for the class are then contacted when a class is starting.
For further information or to be notified about screening, contact the Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati at (513) 621-7323.
