OVB/IDA 2009 Spring Conference

Speaker: Linda Farrell
Location: Anderson Township Community Center
Linda Farrell is co-founder of Really Great Reading . She is a reading specialist who worked independently as a reading consultant prior to founding Really Great Reading. Linda developed many of the workshops and products that Really Great Reading offers. She gives workshops to schools, districts, and states nationally. She also continues to develop multi-sensory materials to help beginning and struggling readers. In her workshops and conferences she offers attendees some real hands-on tools they are able to take back and use in the classroom the next day. Among other things , she presents a matrix for teachers to help them pinpoint the exact weaknesses of the reader. Linda is a national LETRS trainer and also a national DIEBELS trainer for Sopris West.

Speaker: Louisa Cook Moats Ed. D

Louisa Cook Moats has been a teacher, psychologist, researcher, graduate school faculty member, and author of many influential scientific journal articles, books and policy papers on the topics of reading, spelling, language, and teacher preparation. She began her professional career as a neuropsychology technician and teacher of students with learning disabilities. Dr. Moats is currently focusing on the improvement of teacher preparation and professional development through her LETRS program ( Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) with Sophis West. She is a board member of the International Dyslexia Association and co-author of Basic Facts About Dyslexia and Other Reading Problems as well as many other books, journal articles and policy documents concerning reading, writing and teacher education.
